Bicycle & Scooter Safety Tips
Every day, bikes and scooters are sharing pathways with pedestrians, skateboards, and other mobility devices on campus. Here are some tips to stay safe and avoid an accident:
Riding and Parking on Campus at USC
- Always give pedestrians the right of way
- Ride in the direction of arrows on the Trousdale Parkway bike path
- Do not exceed speeds of 15 miles per hour
- Always park your scooter or bike at a bike rack on campus. there are more than 60 racks at UPC. See campus map
- Rentable scooters (Bird, Lime, etc.) are required to park in areas designated by the scooter company in the app
Riding on City Streets
- Always ride in the same direction as traffic.
- Bicycles and scooters are considered vehicles and must follow all motor vehicle traffic laws.
- Ride as far to the right side of the road as is practical and safe, and use bike lanes when available. Never ride on sidewalks.
- Avoid drivers’ blind spots, and don’t weave between lanes.
- Dismount and walk your bike or scooter at all intersections on and around the University Park Campus.
Keep your bike and scooter
- Register your bike or scooter with DPS. This way, if it is stolen and recovered, you will get it back.
- Use a U-Lock to secure your bike or scooter to a rack or stationary object. Watch how to lock it properly.
- Never park in a doorway, stairs or block access ways; your bike will be impounded.
